PROTECT THE HERD. PROTECT LOCAL FOOD SECURITY.

PROTECT THE HERD. PROTECT LOCAL FOOD SECURITY.

ASF is not only a disease problem for hog raisers. It is a threat to livelihoods, local food supply, and the future of pork production in our communities.

Prices may rise or fall from one month to another. But the more important question is this:

Will there still be local farms ready to produce pork when the community needs it most?

When ASF causes too many farms to stop raising pigs, local production becomes weak. Markets then become more dependent on pork coming from outside the area or from other countries. That can leave consumers more exposed to changes in import costs, shipping delays, exchange rates, and decisions made far from our local communities.

A strong local hog industry gives people more than income. It helps provide a steady supply of locally produced, properly inspected pork; supports farm workers, feed suppliers, transporters, meat vendors, and small businesses; and gives communities more control over their own food supply.

Every healthy piglet matters.

The piglets that remain healthy today may become the breeders and foundation stock of tomorrow. When other farms are rebuilding, these healthy animals may help restore local production and prevent shortages in the future.

That is why biosecurity must remain a daily discipline.

Protect your farm:
✅ Limit unnecessary visitors, vehicles, and movement between farms.
✅ Keep entry areas, boots, tools, pens, and equipment clean and properly disinfected.
✅ Maintain clean, dry housing, good drainage, safe feed, and clean water.
✅ Check pigs every day and immediately isolate animals showing unusual signs.
✅ Report suspected illness promptly to your veterinarian or local agriculture office.
✅ Never move, sell, slaughter, or improperly dispose of sick or dead pigs.
✅ Protect your healthiest gilts, sows, and piglets—they may be the breeding base that helps rebuild the herd.

ASF is difficult, but it does not mean we should give up.

By protecting the surviving herd, practicing strict biosecurity, and supporting responsible local hog raisers, we protect more than a business. We protect jobs, families, local pork supply, and the long-term food security of our communities. For affected farms we need to build back better.

Keep the herd alive. Keep local pork alive. Keep the future alive.
